Recollections & Imaginings
Project Leads: Niara Van Gaalen, Bangishimo & Amy Smoke
Director: Erik O’Neill
The work of the project is to envision new futures for a needed community space in Downtown Kitchener. We hope that this project will foster community and relationships between Indigenous and settler communities in the neighbourhood surrounding the bus terminal, and engage residents and local businesses in the future of their community through art. We believe that this project fulfills the grant mandate of fostering a sense of belonging, especially for BIPOC and marginalized residents, and will build relationships, identity, and the capacity to make long term change. The Recollections and Imaginings project final film screening will be suitable for Kitchener-Waterloo residents of all ages to attend, and the film will be inclusive to those with small children. The short film will be released in June 2022.
